Amidst the hustle and bustle of Oxford’s City Centre, tucked away above a bicycle shop, incredible food, coffee and a rare slice of tranquility can be found in The Handle Bar Cafe and Kitchen.
Enjoy breakfasts, brunches, lunches and dinners that have been made with love, with ingredients carefully sourced from independent suppliers while you sit in the bright, airy, relaxed space overlooking St Michael's Street.
Our menu changes with the seasons and we work with a handful of local suppliers to ensure that all of our food and drink is ethically sourced. Coffee beans are supplied by our friends at the Missing Bean and our fridges are stocked with local craft beers. Enjoy a drink in the café or downstairs in Le Bar.
We cater for meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike. You will always find a gluten-free option on our menus and if you have any other dietary requirements, just tell our staff.
"Sitting back, watching the animated, chattering, eating, enthusiastic clientele I wondered why there aren’t more places like this in Oxford. Or perhaps The Handle Bar is just bucking the trend and this is a glimpse of the future."

Although Francesa’s only been a barista at HB for a few months now, it’s not the first time she’s worked within the walls of 28-32 St Michael Street. Five years ago, she was working at Zappis — the well loved bike cafe that once occupied the space, and paved the way for the Handle Bar we know today.
Happy International Women’s day to all you strong independent women out there! We salute you! To celebrate today, we want to share a short documentary that was made last year about our owner, Celine, and her 2018 London Marathon run in support of the Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS), as well as her career path and the philosophy behind the Handle Bar.
Le Bar has quickly become a regular haunt for those seeking unique, classy cocktails and intimate, eclectic music nights. This was all made possible thanks to our lead barman extraordinaire Josh. We wanted to get his perspective on what makes Le Bar stand out from the crowd.
We are so grateful to everyone who made the first ever farm to table supper club at Handle Bar 39 a great success! The night was a celebration of one of the happy cows raised on Ben and Katie’s farm, Turley Farm, in Wheatley.
This Friday, DJ collective Cover3, also known as Oli and Chris, will be returning to Le Bar to play their unique blend of house and disco for their regular night, ‘Cocktail Sessions’.
It’s no secret that the Handle Bar has been the location for many an epic party, but lesser known is just how flexible and adaptable the space can be.
Tonight will mark the third DJ set at Le Bar from husband and wife DJ superstars Nico Jo & Yaya Jojo. We thought it about time for a little feature about them on the Handle Blog.
For this month’s Supplier Spotlight, we were invited to The Missing Bean Coffee Roastery to chat to co-owner Ori about bringing artisan coffee to Oxford.
