Friday night at Le Bar with resident DJ Guille Katorzi
Today we are celebrating DJ Guille Katorzi’s three week residency at Le Bar. Formerly known as Funky Jesus in the Philippines and known to friends as Willie Chardon, the Brazilian born musician who currently lives in Bogota Colombia has been a long friend of the Handle Bar.
Katorzi will be spinning his favourite vintage 45s which he’s collected during his travels, including funk, afro-beat, boogie and nu disco. He’s also been playing some salsa from some of the records he’s brought from Colombia.
‘Some audiences might be disappointed because I rarely play their requests but I guess if you want to listen to music you’ve heard before, there are hundreds of places to do it. On the other hand, going out and discovering new music is rarer than I’d like it to be so that’s what I’m trying to offer.
Katorzi has been a musician for 15 years and has always been in bands, including playing bass in a rock band in Brazil and guitar in a hip-hop band in the Philippines. Collecting vintage records has always been a favourite past-time of his, and many of the 45s you’ll hear tonight have been found in dusty second-hand shops in Colombia. He says that while he’s been in Europe, his highlight was a visit to Crazy Beat Records, a great shop for 45s in Upminster, and Bajoelvolcán in Madrid.
Celebrate with us tonight from 7 to 11 and please see the Facebook event page for more details. If you are interest but can’t make it, don’t worry there’s still time! You will still be able to catch him DJing on Saturday from 7 to 11.
